One in four of MyNetFone subscribers have got rid of their landline altogether and switched to VoIP solutions, a new survey has found.

ITWire reports that the company surveyed its customers and found one-quarter had already disconnected their landline, with a 31 per cent stating that they were prepared to do so if they could get a non-landline dependent broadband service.

Rene Sugo, technical director at the firm, told the news provider that more people will switch to VoIP hardware in the future now that it is possible to keep the same phone number.

"This will help consumers avoid paying costly line rental and allow them to take advantage of superior call handling features included for free with the VoIP service," he added.

Analyst Rob Enderle told BYTE recently that a VoIP revolution will take place sooner rather than later, with generational resistance and aversion to change the only things standing in its way.
