Broadband is essential for those attending university, an industry figure has said.

Michael Phillips, product director at Broadbandchoices.co.uk, said that while students face severe pressures on their finances, a super-fast internet connection is not something they can afford to be without.

"Broadband is not a luxury but an essential utility for students - going without is not an option," he stated.

And while students are feeling the squeeze financially, many broadband providers are aware of the situation and have enticing deals on offer to help university-goers enjoy a super-fast internet connection.

Mr Phillips recommended that those who are not used to budgeting should enter a monthly contract to gauge its affordability, while a short-term contract is best for those who anticipate moving around within the space of a year.

Ernest Doku, technology expert at uSwitch, told the Daily Mirror recently that those who are shelling out £10 per month on broadband are paying too much for the service.
