Nearly half of people in the UK have not seen their broadband speeds improve over the last three years, according to a new survey.

Research by ISPreview found that 47.8 per cent of consumers have connection speeds that are no better than they were three years ago.

Despite this, more than two-thirds (67.7 per cent) expect their internet use to increase going forward.

When questioned on how much broadband data they consumed per month, 37.6 per cent claimed they exceed 60 GB, with 13.8 per cent using more than 40 GB and 13.6 per cent consuming 20 GB.

"It's likely that the reason why half of the UK has yet to benefit from faster speeds is because they live in an area where recent technological advances have yet to reach, such as isolated rural villages," the firm added.

Michael Phillips, product director at Broadbandchoices.co.uk, said recently that broadband speed advertising needs to be made clear so consumers know exactly what they are getting.
