A new plan has been announced that will see super-fast broadband delivered to homes and businesses in the south of Scotland.

According to the BBC, the South of Scotland Alliance has been set up to ensure the region does not find itself on the wrong side of the digital divide.

The scheme is the brainchild of the Dumfries and Galloway and Scottish Borders councils, who have joined forces wirh Scottish Enterprise and local NHS borads to deliver the scheme.

Ivor Hyslop, leader of Dumfries and Galloway Council, told the news provider that the region needs super-fast broadband and will benefit immensely from the project.

He stated that community development, economic regeneration and efficiency improvements in the public sector are some of the positives that could arise from the investment.

Ofcom's Communications Market Report for Scotland recently revealed that the country is falling behind the rest of the UK when it comes to broadband adoption.
