Residents in Halfway, South Lanarkshire are to see their broadband infrastructure upgraded, it has been reported.

According to the Rutherglen Reformer, BT has announced it will implement newer technology that will bring faster broadband speeds to around 150,000 homes and businesses by next spring.

It comes as part of the company's £2.5 billion roll-out of super-fast, fibre-based broadband.

Brendan Dick, BT Scotland director, said that both residential and commercial customers will notice significant improvements.

"BT is the only company consistently investing in a mixture of faster broadband technologies both in and outside Scotland's major urban areas," he added.

According to uSwitch technology expert Ernest Doku, those who are paying over £10 per month for their broadband are paying over the odds.

Speaking to the Daily Mirror, the industry figure said that the market is so competitive now that there are many cheap deals available and people should shop around to see what they can get.
