The chief executive of Devon and Cornwall Business Council has expressed his happiness at plans by BT to rollout an improved broadband service in the south-west.

Speaking to the Exmouth Herald, Jeremy Filmer-Bennett said that the prospects of the region is dependent upon a fast broadband infrastructure, which will bring far-reaching benefits for both consumers and commercial organisations.

"Faster broadband is vital to the future prosperity of the south-west. It plays a key role in businesses, improving their services to customers, becoming more efficient and marketing themselves more effectively," he stated.

Jon Reynolds, BT's south-west regional director, echoed Mr Filmer-Bennett's claims, adding that families can take advantage of more online services if they have a more advanced broadband infrastructure to rely on.

Clodagh Murphy, director of Eclipse Internet, said that the design and media industries are among those to have benefited the most from the evolution of broadband in recent years.
