VoIP solutions 'are more accessible than traditional telephony systems'

VoIP solutions are not necessarily superior to traditional telephony systems, but rather they are more accessible for small businesses, it has been claimed.

David Cargill, a member of the Internet Telephony Service Providers' Association, said that such technology was feasible in previous years, however, the costs involved were prohibitive for many organisations.

He stated that a small firm can download the appropriate software and enjoy sophisticated technology without having to pay significant funds up front.

"I wouldn't necessarily say it's superior - it's just more accessible …. A lot of functions we deliver are pretty similar to the old functions, just a lot, lot cheaper," Mr Cargill added.

James Harper, from Maintel, recently wrote for business2community.com that VoIP solutions are one of the most effective uses of bandwidth for small businesses, adding that broadband speeds in the UK are sufficient to allow such technology to be used in a productive way.
