Broadband uptake in Scotland falling behind the rest of the UK, a new study has found.

According to Ofcom's Communications Market Report for Scotland, broadband take-up remained flat year-on-year at 61 per cent of homes, 13 per cent lower than the UK average of 74 per cent.

It means the country has the lowest uptake in the UK, with the greater Glasgow area one of the worst affected.

Just over one-third of those aged over 55 have a broadband connection, while 26 per cent of those earning below £17,500 per annum have invested in the technology.

Vicki Nash, director of Ofcom Scotland, said: "Despite increasingly sophisticated broadband packages available to more and more Scots, we are less likely than the rest of the UK to take up broadband."

Richard Patterson, director of Broadband Expert, said recently that consumers often feel misled about the broadband speeds they receive from their internet service provider.
