Businesses whose staff use mobile VoIP solutions on their smartphones need to consider security threats to such devices, as these are only likely to increase going forward.

That is the opinion of Tony Neate, managing director of Get Safe Online, who said that those who use such mobile technology need to think seriously about protecting handsetsagainst viruses and other attacks.

"Depending on which smartphones they have, they need to be thinking about those additional precautions. This [smartphone viruses] has been a fear for the last couple of years, but now we're actually seeing it take place," he noted.

Mr Neate went on to add that as businesses and consumers demand more from their mobile devices, the chances are that criminal organisations will look to take advantage of the situation, with apps one of the mechanisms available to them.

According to research by Citrix Online, conducted by YouGov, personal communications devices can help staff to be more productive at work.
