The £56 million recently committed by the UK government to boost broadband services in Wales is welcome, however, it will be some time before the population enjoys the benefits of the funding.

That is the view of Andrew Smith, marketing manager for broadband delivery company TFL, who told the Western Telegraph that while the money will help establish a strong infrastructure in the country, those in need of super-fast connectivity at present should not get their hopes up.

He stated that the "holistic approach" taken by the grants will deliver benefits in the long term.

"However, the £56 million will be of no use to individuals right now who need broadband - it won't be a quick fix," Mr Smith told the newspaper.

The expert went on to add that it will be a few years before the investment begins to bear fruit.

Anne Allen, from Barnard Castle Vision, told a meeting of the Teesdale Action Partnership recently that residents and businesses will soon enjoy faster broadband speeds through the Digital Dale project.
