An IT worker in the Lincolnshire town of Bourne is calling for broadband services in the area to be improved.

Bret Whitcombe, senior helpdesk analyst at Tandem Solutions, told the Rutland and Stamford Mercury that he has launched a petition calling for BT to install fibre optic broadband after becoming frustrated with the slow speeds offered by the current infrastructure.

He finally lost patience while trying to complete tasks on his home computer and said that both residents and businesses would have much to gain by upgrading the existing set-up for something more powerful.

"The internet connection in Bourne is horrendous and not a good service at all … I believe that if we could get this faster broadband rolled out it would improve productivity for businesses, schools and people at home," Mr Whitcombe added.

Julian Smith, MP for Skipton and Ripon, told the Daily Telegraph recently that rural parts of the UK must have their broadband needs addressed before large cities.
