Organisations that have introduced VoIP hardware into their operations to boost efficiency will find that virtualisation can help.

Ian Osborne, project director at Intellect, said that virtualisation allows businesses to create more flexible environments which allow them to scale their application services up and down.

"Virtualisation is very popular as a way of [making] more efficient use of resources." he noted.

The expert went on to state that it is also a way for companies to improve their green credentials.

"If you switch off servers as a result of consolidating your work onto fewer servers, you're definitely using less power," Mr Osborne added.

According to a recent survey of 544 companies across the UK, Germany, France and the US by Veeam Software, 39.4 per cent have virtualised their servers.

Ratmir Timashev, president and chief executive officer of the firm, said that more businesses will realise the potential of virtualisation and adapt their IT infrastructure - which could include VoIP solutions - accordingly.
