Businesses looking to reduce expenditure can save money by using their printers in a more economical fashion.

That is according to Katie Waller, senior researcher at Which?, who stated that there are a number of steps firms can take to cut costs in this area.

One option is to use the draft or fast mode found on most devices and while organisations will sacrifice a little in terms of quality, they will use less ink.

In addition, companies can opt for different fonts to reduce the amount of ink needed, while switching the machines off at the end of the day can contribute significant savings.

"A lot of inkjet printers won't have a hard off button, so make sure you switch them off at the wall. Remember, it will be using energy even if it is just sitting there idle," Ms Waller went on to add.

Andrew Boddington, director of marketing at Return on IT, said recently it is imperative that businesses are aware of exactly how much energy they are using.
