The Digital Dale project designed to bring broadband connectivity to the people of Teesdale will improve over time, the organisation behind the scheme has said.

Anne Allen, from Barnard Castle Vision, told a meeting of the Teesdale Action Partnership (TAP) that while the prices may seem prohibitive for homes and businesses, they are no higher than those implemented elsewhere, the Teesdale Mercury reports.

Simon Land, a TAP board member, said that it makes little sense for commercial organisations to pay significant amounts of money for two megabits per second.

However, Ms Allen stated that the situation will improve going forward.

"It will get better and cheaper the more people use it," the newspaper reports her as saying.

Research conducted by Barnard Castle Vision in 2008 found that there was a significant need for better connectivity in the Teesdale area, with many consumers and businesses saying they needed it if they were to remain in the dale.
