Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health NHS Trust Foundation (BSMHFT) is to invest in VoIP hardware it believes will save as much as £225,000 annually.

Citing a report from Forrester, computing.co.uk claims that the body will benefit from cost savings but also witness additional value from modifying its existing communications infrastructure.

James Longmore, director of ICT, estates and facilities at the organisation, believes that the investment will provide better support to remote workers by integrating business telephony with their smartphones, as well as allowing the hospital to broadcast emergency calls to target populations.

"Cost is an important driver for the trust, but the long-term vision focuses on ensuring that the trust benefits from improvements to our quality of service, team efficiency and the mobility of our workforce in a cost-effective manner," he claims.

TMCnet web editor Carrie Schmelkin said recently that all firms need to enjoy the positive aspects of IP telephony is a fast internet connection and the right equipment.
