Businesses that use internet-based tools such as VoIP hardware could encounter difficulties if their connection is not fast enough.

According to Richard Hardesty of Onlincolnshire, the internet has experienced "rapid growth" in recent years, while online services have also undergone a "dramatic rise" in usage, the Lincolnite reports.

This, he stated, means that if a broadband connection is slow, it can "pose a serious problem" for web users.

However, he insisted that Lincolnshire County Council "recognises that broadband connections are increasingly important in everyday life".

Mr Hardesty said this is why the authority is lobbying for more investment in high-speed internet connections in areas with poor penetration.

He also confirmed that the council wants to see much of this money go towards improving digital access in rural parts of the county.

Mr Hardesty was speaking after Michael Philips of Broadbandchoices.co.uk said consumers accessing the internet in different areas of the country are subject to a "huge" divide when it comes to connectivity.
