The amount of businesses using VoIP hardware is set to soar over the coming years, new research has revealed.

A study conducted by communications specialist In-Stat recently predicted that mobile VoIP usage among enterprises will grow to approach 83 million lines by 2015.

Similarly, users of IP PBX are expected to account for the majority of this figure.

In-Stat went on to note that mobile operators are increasingly realising the potential of the field and "embracing" mobile VoIP solutions.

Commenting on the figures, Amy Cravens, a senior analyst at the firm, noted that there are a number of reasons driving this adoption.

"Some of these include the ability to take the desktop phone experience with you, the ability to utilise the benefits of IP-based communication features," she said.

This comes after the Confederation of British Industry and PwC Financial Services Survey found that many companies in the sector were seeking to bolster their IT spending in the next few months.
