Those using VoIP phones in North Yorkshire are among those who stand to benefit from a new broadband project in the county.

A pilot scheme has been launched in across Ryedale, which will map the internet speeds of rural communities in the area.

The move is part of a government initiative to improve the connectivity afforded to those in county and thereby bolster North Yorkshire's economy.

Councillor Clare wood, chairman of the local strategic partnership, told the Yorkshire Post that her organisation is "delighted" to take a proactive approach to the issue.

"This research will inform the Connecting North Yorkshire project of the rural businesses and community clusters that are most in need of a faster broadband service," she said.

Earlier in the week, internet service provider Aquiss bolstered the broadband speed of VoIP solutions users in Shropshire. The company boosted the connectivity of residents in parts of the county, taking them up to 24 mbps.
