TalkTalk has revealed it has opened a number of high-speed broadband exchanges in Cumbria in efforts designed to help more businesses use superfast internet.

Moves by the telecoms provider have seen it launch a dozen ethernet and ethernet in the first mile exchanges in Carlisle over the past 12 months, the News and Star reports, which in turn has resulted in thousands of companies being able to access 'business-grade' broadband networks.

Such facilities, the organisation notes, have not only given firms the opportunity to benefit from faster internet speeds, but also offer a more reliable and resilient connection.

"The rapid increase in our number of superfast exchanges across Carlisle is a major shot in the arm for thousands of local companies which regard business-grade broadband connectivity as the lifeblood of their operations," Paul Lawton, managing director for TalkTalk Business, states.

Difficulties accessing broadband and issues surrounding quality had previously been identified as a priority for the Economic Development and Enterprise group - an organisation consisting of the Carlisle Partnership, Brampton Economic Partnership and several local parish councils - to take action in addressing.
