Small business should move their communication platform into the cloud, it has been suggested, a step which could mean adopting VoIP services.

In a recent interview with TMCnet, president of Distributed Networking Associates and editor-in-chief of Webtorials Steve Taylor, along with vice president of Ashton, Metzler & Associates Jim Metzler, suggested moving to the cloud is the "next big thing".

Among the advantages of making the switch mentioned by the pair were rapid expansion capability, flexibility and overheads reduction.

Crucially, they continued, call quality is now also reaching the appropriate level in order to be deployed on an enterprise-wide basis, something which has not always been true in the past.

On top of that, the outlay on hardware is often minimal with this kind of solution, the duo added, while the days of budget wrangling over the costs for using, maintaining and repairing on-premises tools are over once it is deployed.
