Desktop VoIP phones rule, says snom

VoIP phones developer snom has suggested ten light-hearted reasons why desktop phones still "rule".

While some IP telephony solutions are software-based, allowing a headset to be used in place of the usual telephone receiver, snom argues that there are some ways in which the physical world is still superior.

For instance, it claims that real buttons operate more quickly than virtual buttons - although users with the latest touchscreen displays may disagree here.

Physical VoIP phones avoid 'headset hair', the developer adds in its snom VoIP Blog update, as well as enjoying a longer lifespan - of as much as ten years.

There are also some personally satisfying ways of using desktop VoIP phones that software-based or pocketable alternatives cannot compete with.

For instance, "you don't have to pull the [desktop] phone out of your pocket to ignore a call" and slamming a headset down as though it were a receiver "just doesn't have the same oomph".

However, there are some clear advantages to portable VoIP phones - such as the ability to seamlessly transfer between mobile networks and on-site IP telephony solutions when coming within range.
