Asterisk solutions could avoid vendor lock-inPosted 11 months 1 week ago in: IP PBX ![]() Telappliant News: 2011-06-16 Rate this article: Asterisk solutions could help companies concerned about becoming 'locked in' with a particular vendor for the long term to adopt IP telephony solutions without having to commit to one provider indefinitely. The open-source nature of Asterisk solutions means a broad range of different companies can develop add-ons and upgrades for the system, enabling new features as time goes on. Such an approach could satisfy the IT leaders concerned about vendor lock-in, as discovered by the London School of Economics (LSE) in a recent cloud computing survey. The organisation found that IT executives in particular are concerned about vendor lock-in, on top of the issues that both they and business leaders believe could impact their implementation of cloud computing. Overcoming these concerns could be a key factor in enabling more firms to take advantage of innovations like cloud computing, as the LSE claims "the gap in expectations and perception of risk between senior business and IT executives is likely to be a major challenge to the expansion of cloud computing".
