IP telephony solutions could ease office moves

The stress caused by moving offices could be eased in part by the use of IP telephony solutions to create a more flexible communications system.

Phil McCabe, spokesman for the Forum of Private Business, says any move - whether it is between offices or homes - has its own amount of stress involved.

He recommends getting staff involved in the physical move, as well as planning the new office layout well in advance to maximise efficiency.

"Certain departments have closer working relationships than others and I think it is important that the layout of an office facilitates, rather than acts as a barrier to them," he says.

IP telephony solutions could offer the flexibility needed to adapt the new office environment to different sized teams.

By routing extension numbers to different physical devices, the communications system can easily be restructured to accommodate the layout and management structure that best suits the new premises.
