With severe weather warnings in place for Scotland at the start of this new working week, managers might be interested in technology such as VoIP phones as a way of letting employees work from home in an emergency.

Should the main workplace be affected by an influx of water, VoIP phones capable of patching extensions through to home internet lines could be one way to stay not only operational, but seamlessly so.

And while some parts of the UK are being warned by Defra that they are currently in drought conditions, others continue to face the risk of becoming inundated.

Yellow alerts from the Met Office are issued for rainfall when small numbers of homes and businesses are expected to be flooded in localised areas.

They can be heightened to orange or red alerts if a greater level of impact is expected.

Last week, alerts were issued for a number of Scottish regions, as well as for Yorkshire and the Humber, south-west England, the East Midlands and Northern Ireland.
