Digium's IP PBX solution Switchvox hit another milestone this week with the release of version 5.0 of the unified communications solution.

Writing on the Digium Inside the Asterisk blog, Angie Reed, product marketing manager for Switchvox, says its fixed-mobile convergence (FMC) is a key feature in the new version.

"Personally, I've been looking forward to this FMC feature," she admits.

"It will be nice to seamlessly transfer calls between my mobile phone, my desk phone, a conference phone, or even to another co-worker, all without interrupting that call."

With six phones currently converged with one another, Ms Reed needs only to tap **3 on the relevant handset to transfer the call seamlessly and without alerting the person with whom she is speaking.

In Switchvox v5.0, six phones is the maximum number that may be converged as a user's primary extension.

However, no additional licensing, hardware, clients or applications are required in order to achieve this.
