Norfolk County Council has announced its broadband core network is to become significantly better thanks to £30 million of investment.

The council is putting up half of the fund, with government backing matching its stake 100 per cent.

As a result, residents of the region can expect what is being described as one of the most significant developments since the dualling of the A11 was announced.

"With the internet central to virtually every aspect of modern life, our lack of broadband access has become a key concern for us," says Norfolk County Council leader Derrick Murphy.

"We simply could not afford to accept this, which is why we seized the opportunity for funding."

Norfolk's County Economic Development Partnership hosts a website dedicated to informing businesses in the area about the potential uses of broadband.

The site, Shaping Norfolk's Future, encourages them to make sure that they do not miss out on the new opportunities presented by developments in broadband technology.
