The average page now takes less than ten seconds to load via mobile broadband connections, figures from industry regulator Ofcom have revealed.

In its latest insight into the development of mobile broadband, the body measures the typical page load time at 8.5 seconds.

Meanwhile, the typical rate at which individuals are able to connect stands at 1.5 Mbps, the survey conducted in collaboration with internet insight provider Epitiro found.

Unsurprisingly, connections are faster and more reliable in urban areas, where the higher population density means network coverage can be better.

However, an important component in the full picture - smartphone broadband - was not measured this time around.

Instead, the study focused on data cards and dongles as means of equipping mobile devices with internet access.

A later investigation is planned to find out how smartphones compare and complete the picture, giving a comprehensive state-of-play analysis of the mobile broadband segment of the UK's web access.
