Sales of pure IP PBX solutions rose in the first quarter of 2011, despite the traditional post-Christmas slump, reports Infonetics Research.

The analyst last week noted that the market for enterprise telephony and unified communications had grown year on year but fallen over the previous quarter.

However, within this figure the IP PBX segment actually scored sequential growth - the only part of the technology's market to do so.

Although the increase was small, it occurred at a time when sales are normally falling after the holiday season, highlighting the continued interest in IP telephony solutions.

"The pure IP PBX segment was the only segment of the market in positive territory in Q1 2011, with a sequential gain of less than one per cent over Q4 2010," Infonetics Research confirms.

Infonetics Research's quarterly Enterprise Unified Communication, VoIP and TDM Equipment report addresses IP telephony solutions and time-division multiplexing, a method of transmitting multiple signals together by cycling through a number of channels.

By comparison, packet-based communication allows each channel to transmit a bundle of data as necessary, varying the sequence from a strict cycle through each signal in turn.
