The uptake of IP telephony solutions is accelerating, according to an Infonetics Research report on the performance of PBX markets in the first quarter of 2011.

While the sector did not escape its usual seasonal slump post-Christmas, falling 2.6 per cent sequentially, its annual movement was more positive at growth of 8.5 per cent.

Spending on enterprise unified communications and telephony - which includes VoIP phones and gateways, and IP PBX systems - stood at more than $2.5 billion (£1.5 billion).

Diane Myers, directing analyst for VoIP and IMS (IP Multimedia Subsystems) at Infonetics Research, says: "The global PBX market is typically down in the first quarter following a strong fourth quarter."

"The good news is the quarter was up 8.5 per cent over the year-ago quarter, signalling a return to stability," she adds.

Ms Myers is described by Infonetics Research as a "meticulous researcher" whose expertise is in identifying emerging markets, competitive analysis, strategic planning and product positioning.
