Mobile VoIP headsets for internal communications could help companies to adopt a best-in-class approach to workforce management.

According to analyst Aberdeen Group, mobile communications are being used in a number of different forms by nearly two-thirds (64 per cent) of best-in-class retailers.

These include voice headsets - which could double as VoIP phones - smartphones, mobile computers and handheld scanners.

Greg Belkin, Aberdeen Group research analyst for retail and banking, writes: "Mobile workforce management can be beneficial for all labour management tasks within an enterprise, including scheduling, time and attendance, and training and development."

He adds that it is little surprise that mobile workforce management is a priority for many organisations.

The report claims 55 per cent of retailers are aiming to improve their workforce management approach as a means of differentiating themselves strategically from their competition.

Mobile communications' increasing pervasiveness in the retail sector is a further driving force behind the trend, the study adds.
