Britons' love of broadband and internet access in general has been highlighted in the latest comScore figures for European online engagement.

The analyst ranks the UK second behind only the Netherlands in terms of the number of hours per person spent online.

During March 2011, the typical Brit spent 33 hours online - seven hours more than the continental average.

This figure was only edged out by the Netherlands, with average engagement of 34.4 hours per person.

A total of 36.2 million Britons accessed the internet in March, viewing almost 3,000 pages each.

The country's level of engagement with broadband access is particularly highlighted when the weather conditions across the UK in March are taken into account.

As the Met Office noted this week, the month was particularly dry - as was the preceding winter - while April was the warmest on record.

However, it seems many people opted to go online rather than getting out and about, although mobile broadband connections may have helped some to do both at once.
