Much of Europe has seen "massive transformation" in its telecommunication systems over the past ten years as IP telephony solutions have risen in popularity, reports Business Monitor International (BMI).

In a new piece of analysis from the firm, BMI predicts the number of broadband connections in central and eastern Europe will double between 2010 and 2015, to reach at least 115 million.

This transformation in networking capabilities is being driven, in part, by demand for advanced services within the telecommunications channel, as well as the preferable tariffs associated with VoIP phones.

"Rapid uptake in broadband services has opened the door of opportunity for various IP-based services," the analyst reports.

It adds that IP telephony solutions are among these, offering "significant cost savings ... especially on international calls".

Research conducted by BMI incorporates trends from more than 140 countries around the planet, drawing on 25 years of reporting experience in 22 different vertical channels throughout the business community.
