The snom 870 CryptoPhone is one of the company's VoIP phones with the levels of style and security demanded by US president Barack Obama, the company suggests.

Responding to reports from the Associated Press that President Obama wants a "cool" phone for the White House, snom suggests its secure IP desktop unit.

This comes with some of the features that might be expected of VoIP phones for use in the Oval Office - such as a full copy of its source code, so that its security may be independently verified.

With a wired R45 gigabit Ethernet connection and "360-degree security", the model aims to ensure no backdoors are left open to external attack.

"Certainly there are other phones out there - and no doubt you have had other offers," snom suggests in a snom VoIP Blog post.

"But there are two criteria we think are essential to a presidential VoIP phone - security and style."

These principles form the foundation for the snom 870 CryptoPhone, the company adds.
