IP telephony solutions could help with growing remote working trend

The growing trend for remote working could be one area where IP telephony solutions have a part to play.

With VoIP phones, a virtual private network can be established to allow employees from anywhere to connect securely to their workplace's telecommunications network, provided they have the right equipment and software.

As a result, IP telephony solutions may allow these individuals to have an extension number just as though they were office-based, setting companies on the track towards more flexible working practices.

Business futurologist Dr James Bellini says: "Increasing numbers of people expect work to be more remote and more virtual in years to come.

"I don't think that's very surprising, because it's already in place now."

VoIP phones may not only help big businesses; they could also cut costs for individuals who choose to work as 'free agents' and provide services to numerous different firms.

According to Dr Bellini, there are already as many as four million adults working in such a way in the UK.
