Broadband could help to put the 'social' back into society, as Frost & Sullivan predicts the future of communities all over the world could be driven by real-time user-generated content with geo-specific features.

In its latest Mega Trends report, the analyst anticipates a world in which social networks are commonplace even for people on the move.

For those users, it adds that automatic detection of their location could allow platforms to deliver geo-specific media.

"User-submitted data with profiles and interests will be matched with location-based services to connect and coordinate with surrounding people or events," Frost predicts.

Meanwhile, wireless broadband roll-out around the world in the years to come could focus particularly on developing countries.

These often have large populations and rapidly growing economies which could be served through partnerships in the networking space, Frost explains.

China is one example of where broadband penetration trails far behind other economic indicators, while Peru has shown signs of surging adoption in recent years.
