Companies keen to simplify their budgets could find a switch to VoIP phones helps them to bring their voice communications expenditure into their overall data spending.

By turning voice calls into another kind of information transfer, VoIP phones could allow the consolidation of fixed-line communication into the data budget that also accounts for electronic data accessed via smartphones.

This is a particular area for budgetary growth at the moment, according to ABI Research, with compound annual growth rate of nine per cent expected in enterprise spending on mobile data between now and 2016.

Dan Shey, practice director for ABI Research's Enterprise Mobility Research Service, says: "Connectivity for other devices, such as tablets, will become increasingly important and contribute significantly to overall connectivity revenues from the business sector."

The service covers global trends in mobile business applications - both voice and data broadcasts - as well as mobile device platforms like handsets, laptops, rugged devices and smartphones.
