The increasing number of firms implementing enterprise solutions such as VoIP is driving the need for scalable Wide Area Networks (WAN), it has been suggested.

In an article for Network World, founder and chief executive of Talari Networks Andy Gottlieb said many companies are finding it difficult to obtain the bandwidth they need to meet current levels of demand within their organisation.

Most broadband provision works "pretty well" a lot of the time, he continued, but this is not good enough for the majority of modern enterprises.

Mr Gottlieb went on to remark that a new technology - WAN Virtualisation - can bring significant business improvements, "delivering not only more bandwidth and lower monthly cost, but greater reliability and application performance predictability".

This type of solution can also benefit firms that employ videoconferencing, date centre centralisation, cloud computing and virtual desktop infrastructures, he added.

In a recent article for mybroadband.co.za, Gail Holt revealed lower costs and simpler support requirements are just two of the many reasons firms are choosing VoIP.
