Providing superfast broadband across the UK will take time to get right, an expert has suggested.

Antony Walker, chief executive of the Broadband Stakeholder Group, said that the government is taking the roll-out seriously and is doing a great deal of work to make it happen.

In December, culture secretary Jeremy Hunt announced plans to deliver a "digital hub" in every community in the country as part of an £830 million project to ensure everyone has high-speed internet access.

Commenting on the plans, Mr Walker went on to say that there is still much to learn about the most effective approaches to ensuring the project is a success.

"It's important to recognise that nobody's really done this before in terms of building out next-generation networks into challenging rural locations and therefore it takes time to work out how to get it right," he remarked.

Earlier this month, Labour MP for Wrexham Ian Lucas told PC Pro he is "trying to press the government to pull its finger out" and speed up the process of delivering its broadband programme.
