VoIP engineers will be some of the most in-demand information technology professionals in 2011, an expert has stated.

In an interview with SME Web, entrepreneur Peter Gradwell said specialists in back-end web technologies such as VoIP and programming language PHP will be the most sought after workers as IT budgets increase.

"It's increasingly becoming a candidate's market, with IT professionals holding the right skills being snapped up quickly by fast-moving businesses," he explained.

Recruitment specialist Jason Baker told the journal there are 50 per cent fewer students taking computing degrees as there were ten years ago, meaning qualified engineers are increasingly in demand.

He went on to suggest that those firms that see potential employees as in a "subservient" position will lose out to those who see taking on new staff as a partnership.

In a recent article for VoIP Planet, Ted Stevenson suggested IP telephony is the "right telephony solution" for small businesses.
