UC deployments 'ready to rise in 2011'

Implementing unified communications (UC) computing solutions can bring substantial business benefits, it has been claimed, news which could mean an increase in the popularity of VoIP.

Matthias Machowinski, directing analyst of enterprise networks and video at Infonetics Research, stated his company is forecasting a rise in the number of firms turning to UC in 2011.

He went on to reveal that most users have yet to experience this type of technology directly but the rise of tablet computers could be about to change all that.

Mr Machowinski highlighted two key benefits of working with UC solution platforms.

Firstly, "it increases the portability of communication tools that are already used, for example on new devices and new locations", he said.

In addition, the expert concluded, completely new tools such as desktop sharing can be useful for teams that are distributed.
