People looking for Voip solutions may find their choice of broadband supplier is better represented to them if new proposals for advertising guidelines come into effect.

The Committee of Advertising Practice (CAP) and the Broadcast Committee of Advertising Practice (BCAP) is reviewing the regulations currently governing marketers of internet services.

Consultations on proposals to add guidelines regarding the use of terms such as "unlimited" and "up to" in relation to usage and broadband speed respectively, are to close on February 25th.

The CAP and BCAP aim to help advertisers interpret the Misleading Advertising guidelines the organisations have published.

Having completed preconsulations with consumer groups and industry parties, the bodies have decided upon new proposals to tackle issues such as the proper representation of what broadband speed customers will actually be able to reach.

While the CAP governs advertising that appears in print, the BCAP regulates promotions on television and radio.
