Broadband speeds have increased, but people searching for Voip solutions may still feel dissatisfied with their service.

A recent survey by uSwitch found the average broadband speed had risen in 2010 to 5.2 Mbps from 4.1 Mbps.

However, individuals remain unhappy with their connection and one expert has suggested this has to do with the way the internet is being used.

Michael Phillips, product director at BroadbandChoices.co.uk, explained people are now accessing the web to watch television rather than ordering items and checking bank details, which is what they may have gone online to do last year.

The more tasks individuals use their connection for, the slower their broadband speeds will be, he stated.

"The thing I would say to consumers is [that] it's about making sure you are on the right package," the expert advised, saying those who are experiencing a sluggish service "are quite rightly going to be very upset".

While those who are not using the internet for downloads may need to ensure they are not paying too much for their service, others may need to upgrade, Mr Phillips continued.

He noted people whose connections are being used by several individuals at once may need to request a faster broadband package.
