VoIP solutions are being used by a number of smaller enterprises to improve the way they communicate, one author has suggested.

In an article for Internet Revolution, Michael Singer explained that more and more companies are utilising the technology as an alternative to expensive telecommunications systems.

This includes retailers and manufacturers and they are using VoIP in conjunction with radio frequency identification (RFID), which tracks their deliveries.

Mr Singer stated: "This combination of mobile and integrated communications components can help enterprises solve market-specific business problems."

He also stated that businesses can use a combination of RFID and VoIP behind the scenes and integrate them with their existing customer relationship management programs, as well as analytics systems and enterprise resource planning.

It is not only RFID that could be used with VoIP solutions, as TMCnet group managing editor Patrick Barnard recently claimed companies should also consider adding hosted or internet fax services.
