VoIP 'fastest growing telecoms sector in Uruguay'

VoIP will be the fastest growing telecoms sector in Uruguay over the next five years, new research has revealed.

Revenue generated by IP PBX solutions will reach 0.2 per cent of the industry total in the country by 2015, a study by Research and Markets has predicted.

The figures went on to reveal that the value of the Uruguayan telecoms sector as a whole - estimated to be worth $1.17 billion (£758 million) in 2010 - is expected to expand by 4.4 per cent year-on-year.

In the mobile sector, data transfer is forecast to overtake voice calls as the main income generator and rise by more than ten percentage points to account for 31.8 per cent of the total.

Broadband uptake will also continue to grow, at a rate of 4.3 per cent per annum, the study concluded.

Expenditure on VoIP services worldwide is expected to rocket by 52 per cent between now and 2014, according to a recent report by researcher In-Stat.
