VoIP is quickly becoming the preferred method of communication worldwide and is expected to overtake traditional telephony systems in five to ten years, it has been claimed.

Advancements in IP PBX technology are allowing individuals and businesses to make and receive calls anywhere wherever an internet connection is available, the Press and Journal reports.

VoIP also provides greater flexibility than traditional phone arrangements, as multiple conversations can take place simultaneously through just one connection as opposed to several lines.

"Security of communication is also ensured when using VoIP, thereby allowing businesses to guarantee confidentiality to clients," the newspaper added.

Perhaps most significantly, it stated, VoIP calls are significantly cheaper to make than calls using telephone lines and can often be entirely free of charge.

Businesses looking to implement IP telephony solutions do not need to make significant changes to their existing network capacity, Ring Carrier chief product officer Jeff Gigoux recently told technology website Processor.
