'Go global cheaply' with VoIP

VoIP solutions enable companies to build a global presence at an incredibly low cost, according to one industry insider.

Suneet Tuli, chief executive of Montreal-based wireless device company DataWind, told Canada's Financial Post he was able to set up local telephone numbers in Spain, the UK and the USA for just $10 (£6.46) a month each.

"Primarily, it was to give prospective customers the sense we were local, despite the fact we were across the ocean," he commented.

Mr Tuli also explained he has used VoIP services since starting his business five years ago, making substantial savings on telephone bills as a result.

With landlines, he stated, the company would be paying around $4,000 a month now, but with VoIP that figure is less than $100.

In a recent article for Forbes, technology writer David Carr claimed hosted VoIP solutions allow enterprises to beef up their telephony systems while significantly reducing their IT overheads.
