Mixed-vendor VoIP solutions have been increasing in popularity over the last few years, an analyst has revealed.

In an article for TMCnet, Deepika Mala said this type of set-up - known as VoIP peering - can cause interoperability issues, but there are significant benefits to be gained from adopting such a strategy.

These include accurate end-to-end caller IDs, global call monitoring and consistent quality of service.

Centralised voicemail, greater bandwidth efficiency and global call monitoring are also listed by the author as key advantages of interconnecting two VoIP systems.

Implementing a session border controller (SBC) is the most likely method of achieving this connectivity, Ms Mala continued.

An SBC can deliver voice codec conversion and layers of security between the two VoIP solution providers, she added.

In a recent article for Tech News World, technology expert Amit Kapoor revealed companies must be proactive amid changing network conditions to ensure they get the best quality VoIP service.
