Technology firm Genius has launched a new device combining the features of an internet phone with a mouse, designed for workers on the move.

The Navigator 380 VoIP Mouse, launched this week by Inspan Infotech, has a high resolution 1200 dpi optical engine for browsing the internet and an LED indicator that blinks when there is an incoming call.

It supports several Instant Messenger (IM) programmes and provides "high quality sound" in phone mode, the company stated.

The manufacturers hope it will appeal to businesspeople who access the internet and use VoIP services in airports and cafes.

S Sudhir, managing director of Inspan Infotech, said: "In the era of convergence, the use of IMs for business purpose is increasing. Executives who are always on the move find the need for this kind of product given the very low costs of VoIP."

A recent study by AMI-Partners revealed VoIP use by small and medium-sized businesses is set to rise substantially in the next 12 months.
