More and more businesses are implementing VoIP solutions due to improvements in security, according to one expert.

Writing for TMCnet, technology specialist Beecher Tuttle explained that fears over information protection may have put firms off making the transition from their old analogue infrastructure in the past.

Now, however, because of the built-in encryption provided by VoIP gateways and virtual private networks, Mr Tuttle said firms feel more confident their data transfers will not be compromised.

These systems securely transfer the voice data as packets and convert them to an analogue signal, he added.

Because of this, the specialist continued, "VoIP systems are becoming exceedingly popular because they offer a host of benefits, including reliability, flexibility and substantial cost savings compared to traditional phone service".

Writing in Forbes magazine, business analyst David Carr said small businesses could benefit in several ways by implementing VoIP solutions.
