Firms must take big decisions on IP telephony solutions, analysts say![]() Telappliant News: 2010-12-14 Rate this article: Experts have revealed the big questions companies looking to move to IP telephony solutions must answer before they make the switch to ensure they harness the "many benefits" they can provide. The first decision, according to co-owner of Converged Telecoms Bryant Dennis, is whether to opt for a phased migration or a one-off upgrade. Choosing the slower approach can often be more complicated, while the quicker route is usually more expensive, he argued. Webcom Group business services director Dawie Bloomberg explained companies must also do their homework when selecting an IT partner. "If you are going to spend the amount of money a move into IP telephony will take, make sure you spend it with the right company," he said. On top of that, third-party applications must be checked thoroughly before any system modifications on such a large scale can take place, Mr Dennis continued, as they may not function correctly with the new infrastructure. Finally, understanding the existing company network and internet connectivity is fundamental to any decision-making, he added. Last month, BE Wholesale head Dan Cunliffe said businesses must increase their broadband capability to effectively implement VoIP solutions.
